The delay in policy can affect 90 lac govt school children in Punjab

Lahore: Punjab education department is struggling to materialize the plan for enrolling 90 lac school children in 54,200 government schools due to a disruption caused by coronavirus pandemic.

According to reports, the plan was scheduled for March according to which 70 lac children in primary school, 15 lac in 8th Grade, and 5 lac in 9th, 10th, and higher secondary were to be enrolled this year. However, due to the delay in the new enrollment policy devising process by the health department, the possibility of the plan to be applied soon looks ambiguous.

“The delay in the process of enrollment is unavoidable due to the emergency caused by the coronavirus pandemic,” said the Education Minister Punjab.

Moreover, the board of intermediate education Punjab has started the registration of grade 9 candidates, which will be completed in June. As per reports, if the admission process will not begin as scheduled, more than 90 lac students will be left stranded for a year and might as well have to quit education.

HEC called out for having "anti-education" policies

After consulting its faculty, GC University Lahore has expressed strong concerns against the University Amendment Act 2020 and the HEC's anti-education policies. University's President Dr. Atif Shahbaz and General Secretary Dr. Ehtesham Ali have stated that if the government takes away the autonomy of public sector universities, they'll fight the government from the FAPUSA platform. He added that by cutting the HEC budget and not increasing the teachers' salaries, the government has already announced its priorities. All the teachers of GC University will protest if it tries to implement the Amendment Act.
