The enrollment of students in Karachi's public schools is decreasing due to poor facilities and academic performance, and a comparison of the previous and recent school census shows 65,000 students have dropped out of school, while 65,000 students have dropped out of school.

A total of 1,914 government schools remain in Karachi after they were closed and deregistered, of which 1,749 are functioning.

The total enrollment of government schools in all the districts of Karachi is 395,522, but 657 of the 14 government schools do not have drinking water, 542 electricity, 380 toilets, 1,588 laboratories, 1,710 libraries and 1,528 computer labs, and 21 do not have shelters or roofs.

It was revealed in the Department of School Education's comparative review of School Census 2019 for the last time in 2022/22, however the report has not yet been released.

Previously, the enrollment of government schools in Karachi was reported to be 4 lakh 59, based on the previous school census 2019.

This is also confirmed in the report issued by the Reform Support Unit, a subsidiary of the Department of School Education.

A report shows that the worst government schools in Karachi are located in Kemari district, where there are five teachers on average per school, versus 14 teachers in southern districts. In Karachi East, there are 36 students per teacher, while there are 21 students per teacher in Karachi West.

There are 90 closed schools in Malir district, while there are 525 active schools in the same district.

There are 84,686 students studying in government schools in central district, while there are 37348 students studying in government schools in western district. Korangi has 74,000 students, Malir has 66,983 students, southern district has 46,530 students, Kemari has 39 thousand students and eastern district has 46,000 students.
