Punjab gov introduces school based assessment
The Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas said that Punjab Education Commission exam (PEC) is a flawed system where teachers encouraged and helped students in cheating in a bid to improve their own grade.
While speaking at a Sir Syed Taleem Confrence, the minister said that we have eliminated PEC exams for grade five, where teachers helped students cheating in exams to improve their ranking and have introduced a school based assessment instead.
“We have introduced school based assessments, which means to improve the result of schools in a way that they do not have to indulge in unfair means for passing the exams,” he said.

The minister added that if a teacher tells a ten year old student to use unfair means to pass exams, “imagine the generation we are raising.”
“Children would think that cheating is ok,” he said.
The minister confirmed that the government also plans to eliminate grade eight PEC exam as well this year.
He said that whatever initiatives we would take for education; this would take time in showing results. “You will see the impact of Single National Curriculum ten years after the students would start studying it,” he said.
