Private Schools in Punjab to Reduce School Fees By 20 Percent

On 26 March 2020, the Punjab government set up a two-member committee to discuss the issue of private school fees. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs and the Department of School Education held a meeting on March 29 and agreed that private schools should reduce school fees by 20%. It was also decided that during vacations schools cannot fire any teacher and also schools will be responsible for paying the teachers their full salary. The report is submitted for approval to the chief minister.

The Punjab government is also planning lectures with the assistance of Punjab Information Technology Board and Programme Monitoring & Implementation Unit and will make these lectures accessible online. With the help of the cable operators in each area, the lectures will be broadcast on the local cable network. The lectures on mathematics and science will be made available for class 1-8. Lectures for 9 and 10 classes shall also be prepared.

The department of school education will also prepare homework for grades 1 to 10, and make it accessible online and distribute it through the departments of district education. The ministry of school education department also suggested that students be promoted from class 1 to class 8 based on the submission of homework, so that the students take homework exercises seriously.
