MDCAT relief for students prior to inter level exams
A-Levels students taking exams in October, can apply for admission to medical colleges by appearing for the MDCAT early, as the National Medical and Dental College Admission Test will be held from 30th August to 30th September.
A meeting jointly chaired by the Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood and Special Assistant to the PM on health Dr. Faisal Sultan decided this course of action here on Thursday.
The officials examined the disruption caused by COVID-19 to the academic year and exams. They also discussed various options to save the current academic year of A2 and FSC Pre-Medical students and their timely admission to medical universities throughout the country.
According to the Pakistan Medical Commission’s Vice President, students who hadn’t yet taken their FSc Pre-Medical or A-Level Exams, could seek admission in Medical & Dental Colleges by taking the MDCAT exams early, as per the PMC Undergraduate Education (Admission, Curriculum and Conduct) Regulation 2021.

The meeting also decided that each medical and dental college will be directed not to finalize the admission on seats equal to the applicants who have taken their A-Levels in October and are awaiting their results and the admission on these seats will be finalized after the results are available in January 2022 to accommodate these students. As per the PMC Regulations, the admissions will be finalized by 15th Jan, 2022.
The PMC Vice President also requested Shafqat Mehmood and the S.A to PM on Health to consider using only elective subject results this year for merit creation in public colleges as the FSc exams are also being held only for the elective subjects. For this purpose, the PMC will permit colleges to finalize admissions on these special category seats by 10th Feb, 2022.

The Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood said that the government was focused on resolving the educational issues caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic and would also provide students with fair opportunities to pursue careers of their choice. He also said that PMC was already considering a policy along these lines for private colleges.
Shafqat Mehmood also said that the Education Ministry would closely coordinate with the Provincial Governments for the implementation for this policy.
