Shafqat Mahmood clears confusion regarding Single National Curriculum

The Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood clears on Wednesday that Single National Curriculum is a “core curriculum” and schools are free to teach any additional material or subjects.

Taking to Twitter, the minister said that there are “some issues re Single National Curriculum” making rounds. The minister said that SNC only “prescribes minimum learning standards i.e the core curriculum. Schools are free to teach any additional material or even additional subjects.” However, he said that schools are free to teach any additional material or even additional subjects.

Secondly, the minister said that schools can use any book that is “consistent with SNC.”

According to reports, the government plans to implement the SNC in phases. The syllabus will first be introduced at a primary level (prep to class five) in the upcoming session in 2021, the secondary level (six to eight) the SNC will be introduced during the session year 2022. In the final phase, the new syllabus will be introduces for classes nine to 12. Minister had urged provinces to get the books published.
