Twitter outraged by Imran khan's statement in the OIC

Yet again, Prime Minister Imran Khan has sparked uproar on Twitter. This time, it's in reaction to his keynote speech at the 17th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which was held by Pakistan this year. During his speech, Khan stated that the Taliban must protect women's rights, but that the international community must also respect their culture.

The Prime Minister is being chastised on social media for attributing the issue of females' education to Afghan/tribal culture.

"Every society has a different concept of human rights and women's rights," he explained. He used the province of Khyber Pakhtunkwa, which borders Afghanistan, as an example of how city culture differs from rural culture. "We provide stipends to the girls' parents in order for them to send their daughters to school." However, if we are not sympathetic to cultural norms in districts bordering Afghanistan, they will not send their children to school, despite receiving double the amount. Human rights and women's rights require sensitivity."

Many social media users were outraged by the PM's statement, calling Khan's speech "foolish and dangerous." The father of Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai, Ziaduddin Yousafzai, shared a videotape of Khan's address on Twitter, saying it's "very disheartening" to watch Khan defend Taliban misogyny via culture.
