PMC Changes Admission Policy to Facilitate FSc and A2 Students

In a bid to facilitate students amidst coronavirus pandemic, the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has decided to ease the admission process for FSc. (Pre-Medical) and A2 Cambridge students who plan to apply to Pakistani public and private medical and dental colleges.

According to reports, the federal Minister for Education, Shafqat Mahmood, lately called an important meeting to discuss admissions of these students in public and private medical and dental colleges. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Health Services, Dr. Faisal Sultan was present at the meeting.

Subsequently, in view of the advancement in decisions, the PMC shared a notification on Sunday, saying that under its Undergraduate Education (Admissions, Curriculum, and Conduct) Regulations 2021, candidates for admission to medical and dental colleges can site for the MDCAT examination even if they are yet to take their FSc. and A-Level examinations.

The notification stated that the MDCAT examinations will be conducted from 30 August to 30 September this year all over the country. Students who are planning to take their A-Level examinations in October 2021 can take the MDCAT in September 2021 in order to apply for admissions to medical colleges before taking their examinations.

As admissions in the medical colleges are to be confirmed by 15 January 2022, while the A-Levels examination results will also be announced during that month, medical and dental colleges have been asked to not announce a final list of admissions for the seats equal to the number of A-Level candidates who are awaiting their results.

Admissions against these seats will be confirmed by 10 February 2022.

The notification stated that in the current academic year, the merit will be assessed based on elective subject results, as the calculations this year are being led only for the optional subjects.
