Govt of Sindh grants university status to Govt College Hyderabad
Govt of Sindh has granted Government College Hyderabad the status of a university.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has given the college the status of a university and appointed Dr. Tayyaba Zarif as its Vice-Chancellor for four years on standard terms and conditions, according to a notice issued by the Government of Sindh Universities and Boards Department.

Dr. Zarif is currently the Dean of Nawabshah University, where he previously acted as Acting Vice-Chancellor. She achieved her MA in Education from Karachi University in 1998 and later earned her M.Phil. and Ph.D. from the same institution.

Meanwhile, Asad Umar, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, announced that a bill to create a federal university in Hyderabad had been introduced in the National Assembly.
