As part of the government's inflation-fighting measures, Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated a subsidised ration program for low-income families on monday.

"Every month, the Ehsaas Rashan Program will provide a 30% discount on the purchase of wheat, pulses, cooking oil, and ghee to 20 million needy families." Mr Khan said at an event marking three years since the completion of the social protection programme Ehsaas and the commencement of the subsidy programme, "The project is aimed at reducing the burden of inflation on the poor."

The premier lauded Ehsaas for being one of the world's top four social protection programmes, according to the World Bank. He said that inflation was a global problem, but that Pakistan remained one of the cheapest countries. The prime minister said that the country's petrol and diesel prices were lower than those in Dubai and other regional countries.

"It is reassuring that all financial transfers under Ehsaas are reaching into the hands of millions of poorest women through the digitised and rule-based system of Ehsaas," he stated today, referring to International Women's Day. Ehsaas spends 98% of its budget on women every year. In addition, the education-focused Ehsaas Taleemi Wazaif provides a higher stipend amount for girls in all tehsils of Pakistan to assist their studies."
