Allama Iqbal University launches teachers training academy

Allama Iqbal Open University has created a virtual teachers training academy portal at the Lahore regional center for teachers all across Pakistan.

The platform is established in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and ALIGHT, Pakistan, a non-profit organization.

AIOU's Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, attended the portal's inaugural ceremony on Tuesday and said the project would remove the physical obstacles hindering teacher professional development.

Punjab's Minister for Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education, Raja Rashid Hafeez, the chief guest at the event, said he was confident that the platform would help teachers in remote locations by equipping them with advanced teaching skills and creative knowledge of content.

He also praised AIOU's attempts to encourage schooling and to digitize the system.

The VC identified the portal as a "learning management system that includes content, quality videos, learning activities, evaluation, and feedback policy to achieve standard teacher training performance across the country, particularly in far-flung areas."

He announced that AIOU would be entirely digitized by July to allow the offline facility to be used by teachers in remote areas with no or poor internet access.
