New Multi-Million Buses at Karachi University left in the parking lot
Due to its terrible financial management, Karachi University, one of the country's oldest and largest public universities, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks.
The institution had purchased eight brand new buses at a total cost of Rs. 100 million, according to details. The buses were initially planned to be utilized for on-campus shuttle service.
The new buses, on the other hand, have never been used and are accumulating dust in the Husein Ebrahim Jamal (HEJ) Research Institute of Chemistry's parking lot.
The reason behind this is that the finance department of Karachi University is refusing to release the additional Rs. 8 million required for the registration and insurance of the new buses.
The finance department is dragging its feet on a problem that directly impacts thousands of students. When it comes to assisting employees, however, the finance department has been fast to shift monies intended for other projects.
Last month, it was revealed that Karachi University's finance department had shifted Rs 100 million from the Ehsaas Scholarship Program to clear the university's workers' unpaid pay and leave encashment totaling Rs 140 million.
