Abbasi said it is the need of the hour to pass the bill as a rule, as cases of violence against female students in universities have risen significantly.

Recently two such cases have been registered at the University of Balochistan and Gomal University. One school in Lahore has also registered one case, Abbasi said.

He has asked for legislation on the matter to prosecute those who commit the criminal actions.

The bill also got support from the substitute’s bench and was referred for further action to the relevant standing committee.

Four private school teachers were fired on June 30, over suspected abuse of female students. The school authorities initiated action after female students accused the teachers on Social Media posts.

The teachers were accused of sexually touching the female students during classes and sending out indecent pictures and texts. Students have also reported that the school administration postponed an investigation at first.
