Teaching of Quran made compulsory in the universities of Punjab

Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has announced that the teaching of the Holy Quran with its translation will be mandatory in all the universities in Punjab. It will be necessary for the students to take these classes. He has also created a committee of 7 members who will give recommendations and also they will be providing the syllabus.

He said that the required amendments to the Constitution will be made. Committee members will present their recommendations on 10th May. The VCs' recommendations will be forwarded to all VCs of the public and private universities and Ulma in the province. The VCs and Ulmas suggestions and inputs will be discussed on 17th May.

The Committee of Vice-Chancellors is led by Punjab University VC Professor Niaz Ahmed while Professor Dr. Masood Gondal of King Edward Medical University (KEMU), University of Education VC Professor Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, University of Health Sciences (UHS) VC Dr. Javaid Akram, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) VC Professor Mansoor Sarwar, Government College University (GCU) Lahore VC Professor Dr. Asghar Zaidi VC and Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) VC Dr. Bushra Mirza are the members.
