Teachers Protest Turns Violent after Police Assault
Outside Karachi Press Club, teachers were brutally tortured by female police officers while entering the red zone to protest against the permanent employment of contract teachers from across Sindh, i.e. against the non-regularization of their employment.
According to Express News, a graphic video in this regard has gone viral on social media in which a female constable can be seen aggressively slapping a teacher and grabbing her by her hair. The constable, who can be seen overstepping her authority, later took the teacher near the police mobile and proceeded to exercise even more brutality using batons, while the other police constables picked up the teacher and shoved her into the police mobile.
In this regard, a statement of condemnation has also come out from the spokesperson of District South Sindh Police. In the statement, the female constable was declared guilty of abuse and is being suspended while disciplinary action is being taken against her.
The police spokesperson said that the entire unit or organization cannot be held responsible for the inappropriate actions of a single individual, and the process of accountability within the police is always ongoing. Whether it be male or female officers who commit any misconduct or abuse against citizens, departmental action is taken against them and they are punished accordingly.
