Students protest against HEC's new policy

The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) protested against the Associate Degree Program announced by the Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC), said sources on Tuesday.

While talking at the protest, IJT Karachi Nazim Hafiz Umar Ahmad Khan said that Pakistan Medical Commission should be revamped and the test for re-admission should be conducted soon.

He added that HEC's two-year degree program should not be abolished as it has affected thousands of students who could not complete their degree due to HEC's four-year bachelor's program policy.

In November, HEC had announced the elimination of a two-year bachelor's degree program from all educational institutions and stated that it would not attest any two-year bachelor's degree undertaken after 2018.

In 2019, HEC also announced that it would abolish the two-year BA/BSc programs, and students will be given an Associate Degree (AD) instead. The commission has also changed the terminology for the degree from BA/BSc to AD.

The protestors also demanded the answers for discrepancies in the Medical and Dental Colleges Admissions Test (MDCAT) held by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).
