Student teacher ratio in Punjab schools is ‘alarmingly low’
The Ministry of Education data reveals that in 52,035 schools across Punjab, only 3,90,782 teachers are employed, whereas, 70,000 all category teachers seats are vacant. The data also states that over 8,000 teachers would retire by February 2021 as a result the education sector might get deeply affected.

According to the data, in Punjab there are 751 Higher Secondary Schools out of which 366 are for boys and 385 are for girls in which 24794 teachers are employed. Out of the total number of teachers, 11878 are male and 65914 are female. Moreover, there are total 36321 Primary schools in the province out of which 17095 are for boys and 19226 are for girls. There are 142151 teachers employed in the primary schools in the province.

According to sources, the promotions of these teachers are also stagnant since years and most of the teachers get retired while staying at the entry level all their work life.
