Sri Lanka postpones school reopening due to a rise in COVID-19 cases

Sri Lanka has extended the school holidays for two more weeks as there is an upsurge noticed in COVID-19 cases in Colombo and its outskirts.

According to AP, schools were scheduled to reopen on Nov 9, but the government later postponed reopening schools. The schools will now resume on Nov 23.

Schools were abruptly closed last month to prevent further spread after a new cluster of coronavirus cases concentrated on a garment factory break out in the densely populated areas near Colombo. Another group of infection centered on the country's primary fish market also broke out last week.

The two clusters of infections have now reached 7,856 confirmed cases, with 275 in the previous 24 hours. The total number of Sri Lanka cases for the pandemic is 11,335, with 21 deaths from Covid-19.
