Punjab imposes ban co-curricular activities in schools

The Punjab government has banned all the extra-curricular activities in schools across the seven districts due to a rampant surge in coronavirus cases in the province.

Taking to Twitter, Punjab Education Minister Dr. Murad Raas posted an official notification to announce the ban on Monday.

“Restrictions on co-curricular activities in the 7 districts stated in the notification due to COVID 19. No gala, sports activities, or public gatherings,” the minister said.

According to the notification, no co-curricular activities including all sports events to be held in those districts will be canceled as 20 cases were being reported daily in Lahore, Gujrat, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad.

The minister has said that the resumption of regular co-curricular activities depends on the covid-19 situation in the province.  It further read that SOP compliance in letter and spirit, as already conveyed.

The aforementioned district is also exempted from beginning regular five to six days a week classes, as per the announcement made by the federal government on February 26. Schools across these districts will follow alternative day policy due to the surge in coronavirus cases. The situation will be reviewed by the provincial government on March 31.
