Punjab Government schools to have performance-based budgets

Punjab government schools will receive a non-salary budget (NSB) based on their performance, as well as separate budgets for furniture, coaches, and construction.

Poor performance and low enrollment rates will be deducted from the NSB, while a supplementary budget will be allocated to attract part-time teachers with exceptional performance.

There will be an additional budget addition of 14 percent for the construction of run-down classrooms, and a twenty percent addition for increasing enrollment. School districts in villages and remote areas will receive an additional nine percent increment.

Additionally, the additional budget will be transferred to the appropriate authorities' accounts. Funds will then be used with the approval of the school authorities and will be audited annually.

Depending on the number of students enrolled in a school, the budget allocation formula determines how the money is spent.

As the President of the Punjab Association of Subject Specialists (PASS), Rana Atta Muhammad said, the addition to the budget is an encouraging step, as the existing NSB was used solely to pay electricity bills.
