Private schools reject govt’s decision to pass failing students

All Pakistan Private Schools Federation (APPSF) has questioned the government’s decision to pass all matric and intermediate students who appeared in exams this year.

President of the federation, Kashif Mirza, said the decision is unfair with the students who worked hard and are competent.

Furthermore, he opposed the idea of beginning the next academic session in August instead of March.

The statement by APPSF came a day after government announced a decision to give 33 percent marks to those students who fail in any subject.

Taking to Twitter on Monday night, The Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood announced the decisions taken during the 32nd Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) held earlier on Monday.

In addition to giving passing marks to failing students, the government has also decided to hold matric and intermediate exams twice a year.

The minister stated that in the following year, the matric exams would be held in May and June, while the intermediate exams would be held in October and November.

The new academic session will begin on 22 August, while there will be no change in the exam schedule of O and A-Level examinations.

The minister reiterated that the decisions have been made due to the current situation of the COVID-19.
