PM gives a go-ahead for Punjab University Medical college & Hospital plan

LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan gives a go-ahead approval for the setting up of Punjab University Medical College and its affiliated hospital on university’s new campus to operate as public sector bodies.

The Punjab dedicated healthcare and medical education department has offered a comprehensive college and affiliated hospital formation and administration proposal to the prime minister and requested resources and funds for the project.

Moreover, the Punjab cabinet committee on finance had also approved the idea in its 37th meeting on Monday and give a go-ahead to the health department to advance for the formation of Punjab University Medical College and its affiliated hospital.

The medical college will be established at varsity’s statistical and actuarial sciences building and allied hospital on the land beside the road leading from canal to the Karim Block, Allama Iqbal Town. According to sources, the Punjab University has consented to allot 300 acre land for the hospital.

Initially, the approval has been given for 800-bed hospital with cardiology and general hospital towers on about 60 acres of land.
