PCTB bans 100 textbooks
Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has prohibited around 100 textbooks from teaching in educational institutes that are believed to be against the teachings of Islam and ideology of Pakistan.

The managing director of PCTB, Manzoor Nasir said in a meeting that these textbooks are being taught at many of the private educational institutions. He also said that the board has acquired more than 10,000 textbooks that are taught in private schools and colleges. “30 committees have been formed to cross-examine the text in the books, whereas, up till now 100 books have been pointed out by committee to have immoral and inaccurate content”, he said.

According to the board, the books with immoral content are published by 31 publishers including Oxford, Cambridge, Links International, Paragon and others.

The committee pointed out that some books are also against the ideology of Islam and Pakistan “There is a questionable content which includes, disrespect of sahaba (Ra), inaccurate birth dates of Allama Iqbal and Quaid e Azam as well as some books also do not have Kashmir on Pakistan’s map which is against the national integrity of Pakistan”, the committee discussed.

The committee said that some of the content can subliminally propel students to choose the path of criminals.

The interrogation process of 10,000 books will be completed in six months, the committee declared.
