NA approves the Bill for Engineering and Emerging Technology University

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education, Professional Training, National Heritage and Culture has approved the bill for establishing “The University of Engineering and Emerging Technology Bill, 2020” with alterations in the plan.

The bill was presented in a committee’s 21st meeting chaired by Mian Najeeb ud Din Awais of Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Islamabad on Monday.

In her briefing, Dr. Shaista explained that previously the bill was referred to the Standing Committee on Science and Technology. The same has been discussed with the Standing Committee on Federal Education, Professional Training, National Heritage and Culture, she said. Furthermore, the Executive Director said that the government had allowed HEC to begin the case for establishing a university in Islamabad with a focus on Engineering and Emerging Technologies.

However, she maintained that for the enactment of the approval and for the institute to commence educational activities would be required to obtain No Objection Certification based on the assessment by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). She also held that the opposition member have opposed the bill and submitted the Note of Dissent.
