Facemasks deemed mandatory in KP schools

The Kyber-Pakhtunkhwa government considered facemasks as compulsory for the students and staff once the schools reopen in mid-September.

In a meeting chaired by the Education Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED) on Friday, the government endorsed the tentative date for reopening schools is September 15, as announced by the federal government last month.

The meeting asked all district administrations to sanitize all schools, which served as the quarantine centers for novel coronavirus (Covid-19) patients.

The relevant departments have been directed to guarantee the availability of water and soaps in schools.

Furthermore, teachers were asked to follow the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs). The meeting also decided that schools in districts where the ratio of the virus is high will only be reopened after consulting with the district administration to guarantee the safety of teachers and students.
