Afghan refugee girls seek education in Pakistan

The decision to ban schools for female students in classes 7-12 led some families to leave Afghanistan for Pakistan in order to provide their daughters with an education.

Families said they prioritized educating their daughters.

The closure of schools, however, has caused some female students to experience mental stress.

Above class 6, the main lessons are taught. It is impossible for the girls to be literate if they do not study. It is being requested that the Taliban open up schools and education for girls.

Nangarhar officials said that after the Islamic Emirate's plan to reopen girls’ schools above grade six was finalized, the schools would reopen.

Families in Afghanistan are awaiting the order to reopen schools from the Ministry of Education. According to Farhad Stanikzai, a spokesman for Nangarhar department of education, the news will be conveyed whenever the order is given.

Over 400 days have passed since girls' schools for classes 7-12 were shut down. Schools have yet to reopen for female students, despite promises by some officials of the caretaker government.
