According to the Indian media, the incident of the teacher's abuse was witnessed by another student. Due to the switch being turned off, the drill machine did not damage the bone of the hand, but the student's hand was badly injured. The injured student was taken to the hospital by his fellow classmates.

According to police sources, the class 5 student had forgotten how to recite the table of 2. At the time of the incident, the victim was a student at an upper primary school in Premnagar, Kanpur. After the student was unable to recite the table, the teacher drilled his hand. The drill machine was unplugged by a student standing nearby. Local education officials were not notified of the incident by the teacher. The case was highlighted by protests from the student's family.

Additionally, the family of the child was informed, which led them to protest in front of the school about the heinous violence conducted by the teacher. As a result of protests from students and their families, the education officer suspended the mathematics teacher and formed a three-member inquiry committee.
