UoB bailout package approved by CM Bizenjo
On Friday, Balochistan's Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo approved the release of Rs300 million in bailout funds for the University of Balochistan (UoB).
In the wake of repeated protests and appeals, the CM approved releasing the university's funds.
In approving the release of the bailout package, he reviewed the summary sent by the Higher Education Department (HEC).
Academic staff and students at the province's oldest university staged protest demonstrations against the financial crisis.
A bailout package was issued in order to pay university employees' salaries and resolve other financial issues immediately.
Despite the financial problems faced by the provincial government, the chief minister gave priority to resolving the problems of higher education, a well-placed official at the chief minister secretariat told The Express Tribune.
Mir Quddus Bizenjo reportedly took personal notice of the university's financial crisis. The concerned quarters were directed to step up their efforts to release funds.
Despite this, Dr. Kaleemullah Bareech, the central office-bearer of the academic staff association, said that the provincial government should fix the university administration's financial problems when it comes to increasing expenditures and salaries.
