In response to the federal government's announcement, the decision was made that academic schools in some cities would be closed during the spring semester due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Universities and higher education institutions (HEIs) in Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Sialkot, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad will be granted an exemption, according to a statement issued by the HEC in this regard.

According to the announcement, all universities in the cities will be closed from March 15 to March 28, 2021.

Academic activities will, however, continue online throughout this period, according to the HEC. Furthermore, ongoing and pre-scheduled exams can be carried out as expected while adhering to all COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

"Universities are recommended to ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 minimum health and safety protocols, which include thermal screening, facemask use, social distancing, the availability and daily use of sanitizers, and building disinfection" according to the statement.
