New Rules for Private Schools in Sindh
New Rules for Private Schools in Sindh
The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh (DIRPIS) has prohibited private schools and colleges from forcing parents and students to purchase uniforms, textbooks, copies, and other stationery items from specific outlets.
In addition, private educational institutions are prohibited from expelling students for unpaid dues without informing DIRPIS. Furthermore, extracurricular activities cannot be organized with money collected from students.
Furthermore, DIRPIS forbids private schools and colleges from changing uniforms without authorization. In addition, students cannot be physically punished.
Fees cannot be collected bimonthly, quarterly, biannually, or yearly by private educational institutions. Fee vouchers must now be issued only on a monthly basis. If parents intend to submit fees for more than one month, they will only receive fee vouchers bimonthly. It will also be required that private schools and colleges display their fee structures on their notice boards.
A 10% fee concession will be given to deserving students and scholarships will be awarded to top-performing students under Rule 13 of Sindh Educational Institutions Act 2005.
ASPA protested against the illegal practices of private schools and colleges in Sindh a few weeks ago.
Private educational institutes were also asked to accept US Dollars instead of Pakistani Rupees as part of the protestors' demands.
