Sindh Govt rejects HEC’s decision

The Sindh government once again rejected the HEC's decision. This time, the Sindh government disagreed with the Higher Education Commission's decision to end the new two-year degree program in the country.

Last year November, the HEC declared that the Commission would no longer recognize two-year BA and BSc degrees after 2020. This meant that before December 31, 2018, students enrolled in two-year programs would be able to complete their degrees by December 2020. Those enrolled later, though, would not be given their degrees.

The decision sparked outrage among students and educators, calling for a series of demonstrations around the country to revoke the notice in this respect.

The Sindh government opposed this decision after taking action on the matter and directed varsities throughout the province to continue the two-year degrees.

"Through this policy, more than 270,000 students will not be able to get degrees," said Nisar Khuhro, Advisor to the Chief Minister for Universities and Boards.

The provincial government also rejected the commission's decision to take admission in PhD program without getting the degree of MPhil.
