School vacations extended in Lahore
As the smog situation in Lahore continues to worsen, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the provincial government to extend winter vacations.
The ruling was reached by Justice Shahid Kareem, who heard petitions relating to smog in the area. He decided that schools would remain closed from 2nd January to 8th January.
All public and private schools and colleges in Punjab, including Lahore, are currently on winter vacation. In Lahore's schools, the winter break started on 24th December, with the academic year beginning on January 2nd.
With Lahore's smog situation worsening, the LHC asked the School Education Department (SED) to extend winter vacations from one week to two weeks.
Earlier this month, the Punjab government announced three weekly holidays for Lahore's public and private schools. It is expected that the three holidays per week will remain in effect until further notice.
All public and private schools in Lahore will remain closed every Friday and Saturday, according to the SED's notification. There will be three holidays in total, including Sunday.
