Punjab Gov opens first-ever transgender school in Multan

The Government of Punjab established the first-ever Transgender School in Multan to give equal educational rights to people belonging to the transgender community.

While addressing the media, Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas boasted that no such initiative had been taken in the history of Pakistan.

“This initiative was much needed because the society has sidelined the whole transgender community and discriminated against them in many areas, including education and career,” said Raas.

According to the minister, this initiative is a brainchild of South Secretary of School Education Dr. Ahtesham. His team has worked hard in research, communication with the community, said the minister.

Answering why separate school is needed for the transgender community, the minister said that an independent school is more effective for the comfortable learning of the community.

“School children are immature, and there is a possibility that they use harsh words against fellow transgender students, which is why we want to provide them space where they can learn in a comfortable environment,” added Raas.

The school is named “Trans education,” and some of the teachers having Masters and Mphill degrees will be given an opportunity to teach.

“Our second step would be to provide job opportunities to the community,” said Raas.
