President Alvi Prioritizes Need to Provide Proper Education for Differently-Abled Students
President Dr. Arif Alvi has once again prioritized the need for providing adaquate education to differently-abled members of socety in Pakistan.
The President has underlined the importance of providing customized computers and software to assist visually and hearing-impaired pupils in learning digital and IT skills that will help differently-abled people earn.
He delivered these statements today at Aiwan-e-Sadr while speaking to differently-abled female pupils from the National Special Education Complex in Khuzdar, Balochistan.
On the request of the differently-abled students, the President advised the provincial authorities to take all necessary steps to upgrade the school to the secondary level, improve and modernize the curriculum, and equip the school with modern-day teaching techniques, so that the students could continue their education.
He also advised local government officials, private nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and other federal and provincial ministries to join hands and provide all necessary help to supply the school with modern-day teaching tools in order to provide excellent and market-oriented skills to the students, thereby preparing them to be valuable and productive members of society.
He prompted the public and private sector to find ways of making public buildings, hospitals, recreational facilities, public transportation, streets, and highways more accessible to differently-abled people (DAPs).
President Alvi also emphasized that the government and civil society should collaborate closely to promote DAPs' effective inclusion in society through adequate education, developing skills, training, and placement in suitable public and private sector positions.
According to him, the ICT Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, which was passed in 2020, requires the Pakistani government to ensure that every DAP has the right to be respected and to live a decent life with equal opportunities to participate in educational, social, economic, cultural, and other activities in society without discrimination.
As part of their educational activities, the students are touring Islamabad. In the Southern region of Balochistan, the National Special Education Complex in Khuzdar is the only educational institute for differently-abled students, with 160 male and female pupils engaged in primary-level education and skill development programs.
