Muslim Students Forced to Eat Pork at French School
Muslim students in France are served pork-based meals in school canteens despite repeated requests for halal meals. French school cafeterias do not offer halal food to Muslim students, according to the World News Agency.
Parents have approached the court over Muslim students going hungry all the time at school, which has understandably outraged.
Despite France's claim that school food menus and clothing are secular, a court ruling found that alternative menu choices do not violate secular principles. However, alternative menus are not being offered in many schools despite the court order. According to the school administration, only one menu has been offered since 2016.
Due to environmental concerns, many Muslim and Jewish parents have written letters to regional administrations proposing exclusively vegetarian and chicken-based alternative menus. 94 percent of parents chose a fish, beef, or chicken menu, but radical mayors opposed it as against secularism.
