Law student in France forced to take out head scarf
PARIS, FRANCE: According to a student lawyer, she was threatened with expulsion from the pledge ceremony if she did not remove her headscarf.
A teenage Muslim undergraduate accused France's most prominent legal institution of Islamophobia after being threatened with removal from an oath ceremony for wearing a headscarf.

Sara, a graduating lawyer who just revealed her first name, said she was singled out for wearing a headscarf during a ceremony Thursday at the Palais des Congres in Paris, according to local french media.
She was required to remove her head covering by the Ecole de Formation des Barreaux (EFB), a professional training school for attorneys under the jurisdiction of the Paris Court of Appeal.
“You must remove your hat.”
"If you don't take it off, you'll walk out of the room and won't be able to take the oath," a school official demanded, she claimed.
She stated that she felt frightened and embarrassed after being shouted at in front of so many students, and that she had no choice but to leave.

As per Sara, a magistrate took her to the rear of the theatre to ensure she removed her headscarf.
She couldn't wear a headscarf if she wanted to be a professional lawyer.
The oath-taking event acted as a warm-up for the major oath required before becoming a lawyer, which was delivered by Richard Malka, the president of the Paris bar and a well-known lawyer.
