Karachi University changes admission requirements after 75% students fail entry exam

Karachi University (KU) has decided to enroll students under an open merit policy after more than 75% of the candidates had failed their entrance exam.

In this context, the results of the test of the Master's Program of four departments were annulled by the KU administration. Candidates can now be admitted under free merit to departments of studies in Pakistan, commerce, mass communication, and criminology.

KU has also reduced the passing marks from 50 to 25 for the Business School and Department of Public Administration entrance exams. As for the graduate program, KU has decreased the passing marks of seven departments from 50 to 40-45.

It involves the departments of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, Science, Environmental Sciences, Oil Technology, Special Education, and Teacher education.

KU has reduced last year's closing percentages of intermediate examinations for open merit intakes to the Bachelor's Program.

For the Department of Computer Science, the minimum percentage is lowered from 75 percent to 72 percent, for the Department of Software Engineering from 76 percent to 73 percent, for the Department of Food and Science from 72 percent to 54 percent, for the Department of international relations from 75 percent to 62 percent, for the Department of Mass Communication from 75 percent to 66 percent, for the Department of Mass Communication from 75 percent to 62 percent.
