Indian film screened at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University in Lyari
In the Lyari area of Shahr e Quaid, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University held a student festival during which an Indian film was shown to students. The movie's content was allegedly objectionable, and did not align with cultural norms.
Students expressed that they were uncomfortable due to the obscene content being shown so publicly in the auditorium, and further criticized the film.
It has been reported that the student council requested permission for a 3-day food festival, during which an Indian film was screened. Aside from one teacher, all teachers of the university, including members of the relevant department, attended. While no one stopped the film, a teacher who was there continued making a video of it with his mobile phone instead of stopping it.
As a result, the university administration has received severe criticism in this regard, and Dr. Siraj Memon, who is acting as vice chancellor of the university, has been told that the university is being destroyed because of his absence.
Consequently, the university administration has released a statement that the event was held without the university administration's permission, which is unacceptable in any case.
However, when the festival was discovered, it was immediately stopped because the organizers failed to follow the prevailing rules for organizing the festival. In addition, the university's code of conduct was not respected.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Lyari University Jinnah is the permanent head of Sindh Medical University. This means he spends a few hours each week at Lyari University, but he is also well known for taking action promptly in various matters.
They took immediate action the day before after viewing a video showing the bad condition of the student toilets, but they made these washrooms usable the next day.
