HEC accepts TTS teachers’ demands after protest in Islamabad
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has accepted university teachers' demands serving under the tenure track system (TTS).
A protest outside HEC headquarters in Islamabad was organized by TTS teachers on Monday, alleging more than 6,000 TTS teachers across Pakistan face a wide range of issues that have not been addressed by HEC or universities.

These issues include a rise in wages and benefits, leaves, grade period, and journal policies, as well as pending cases of endorsement. TTS teachers recommended that these problems be resolved immediately along with the issuance of notices.
As a result of the protest, Dr. Tariq Banuri, HEC Chairman, Dr. Shaista Sohail, Executive Director, and Fateh Marri, Member Operations, met with protesting TTS teachers and approved most of their demands.
According to the official statement released after the meeting by the HEC, Chairman HEC agreed to consider the legitimate demands of the TTS teachers who were protesting.

In this regard, during the current week, HEC will issue three notifications. One notification, along with updated requirements, will announce an increase in TTS teachers' tenure from 6 to 9 years. The other two notices will cover clarification of administrative roles held by TTS teachers in the past and policy recommendations for holding those positions in the future.
Also, HEC will send two additional notices within a month, one of which will inform TTS teachers of the rise in wages, while the other will apply to the revised pension scheme for retired TTS teachers.
