ISLAMABAD: The Inter-Provincial Conference of Ministers of Education has opposed the immediate closure of educational institutions.
Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood chaired an inter-provincial education ministers' conference in which all provincial education ministers participated via video link.
The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) and other concerned officials briefed the meeting on Corona cases and consultations on expediting and prolonging winter vacations in educational institutions due to rising Corona cases in the country.
The meeting proposed to extend the winter holidays from November to January, saying that the number of cases in educational institutions has risen to alarming levels. Still, the education ministers opposed the closure of schools.
Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood said that children and teachers' lives are most important to them.
A meeting of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected this evening to decide on winter vacations in educational institutions.
