Dr Khan’s petition against MDCAT filed in IHC

Islamabad High Court (IHC) was filed on Monday against examination regulations 2021 presented by Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).

Former secretary Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) Waqas Malik stated that he was filing the case on the wishes of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, who passed away on Sunday. Malik said that Dr A.Q Khan was concerned due to unfair treatment with the young doctors and had instructed him to file a petition on his behalf.

The lawyer said he got the signature of Dr A.Q Khan on the power of attorney and the plea, which was supposed to be filed on this day, adding that he wished to pursue the case himself after the demise of the national hero.

The petition had named Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination and others as plaintiffs.

The batten charge against the protesting young doctors had affected the image of Pakistan internationally, the petition said. It further said the decision of dissolving the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and setting up PMC created flaws in the system.

The petition said a new test system had been introduced for the medical students and its fee had been increased to Rs6000. It was not correct to introduce a new test system without giving appropriate time to students.

The petition prayed to the court that students should be promoted on merit instead of adopting a commercial approach. Further, the petition asked the court to declare examination regulations 2021 of PMC as null and void.

The renowned nuclear scientist and national icon had passed away yesterday and was laid to rest in Islamabad, with his funeral prayers being led by Prof Dr Ahmed Al Ghazali at the Faisal Mosque.

Last week, the Pakistan Medical Commission’s (PMC) National Medical Authority (NMA) had announced the final result of the MDCAT 2021 after the conclusion of the post-exam analysis held on the completion of the test.
