Dengue in Karachi on the rise: Schools ban half-sleeves & PT
From Monday until the end of the month, assembly and physical training (PT) sessions in Karachi schools will be suspended. In response to the increase in dengue cases, the Karachi Commissioner has issued an SOP for schools and other educational institutions.
Karachi's Commissioner has mandated that all students wear full-sleeves. Schools will be required to spray for dengue and malaria on a regular basis. Additionally, authorities instructed schools to take special care of water drainage and sanitation. Malaria and dengue awareness sessions will also be conducted in all schools.
According to official data, another 349 people contracted dengue virus in Karachi during the last 24 hours.
Korangi district reported the most cases with 109, followed by East district with 74, Central district with 70, Malir district with 38, and South district with 33. The vector-borne disease also infected 18 people in Kemari District and seven in West District.
A total of 5,000 people have been infected with dengue virus in Karachi this year, and 11 have died.
