The relationship between Pakistan and the viral video streaming platform, TikTok, has been volatile since its inception. While students and youngsters alike enjoy the easy to use interface, and reel-like features offered by the app, the application has slowly become a controversial issue across the country.

TikTok has been banned not once, not twice but several times in Pakistan over the last few years.

In the past, TikTok has allegedly provoked ‘dangerous' behavior patterns in students and young children, who do all sorts of strange activities for video content or risk their lives for 'dares' and 'trends'. This has caused people to have unfortunately lost their lives, inadvertently, due to the 'TikTok Craze' which is commonly used to describe it.

The University of Sindh, in Jamshoro, has been aware of the growing TikTok trend among students, not wasting a minute to issue a new rule condemning its very presence at the institution.

Following the rampant use of the video-sharing app, the Director Student Affairs, Dr. Younis Laghari, took notice of the videos the students were recording and uploading on social media, deeming them as utterly 'immoral and unethical'.

Dr. Laghari publicly issued a statement, banning the use of TikTok within the grounds of the University of Sindh. A warning notice was issued to students. The cat and mouse chase further intensified when it was reported that students who do not come to the administration about noticing illicit TikTok usage would also be reprimanded, along with serious action which would be taken against students who violated the decision.

The University of Sindh emphasizes that it prioritizes preparing its students to become strong, empowered and productive members of society, for the future of the Nation.
