A2 Level exam can continue to go ahead, British Council Pakistan

Due to the rising Covid-19 cases in the country and mounting pressure of students and parents, the federal education minister cancelled all examinations in the country including International’s May-June 2021 O Level, IGCSE and AS Level exams. However, the British Council of Pakistan in a notification has confirmed that AS Level exam will be conducted as per schedule “to ensure students can progress with their education beyond school,” read the notification.

While fully supporting government’s decision, the council stated that liaising with the Ministry of Education and working as quickly as they can to put the new arrangements for Cambridge International A Level exams into place from Monday, May 3.

“We will update schools and students with the new venue details for next week’s exams as soon as we can. In the meantime, all students due to sit their Cambridge International A Level exams this week should continue to go to the currently published exam venues,” the notification stated. A2 students who wish to appear in the exams now for one reason or the other can go ahead with scheduled exams.

Making an announcement via his Twitter account, education minister Shafqat Mahmood said that university admissions in Pakistan will be aligned for class 12 and A2 who will be taking exams in Oct/Nov. “This is to ensure no one loses a year. For A2 who have some compulsion to take exams now, every attempt will be made to provide safe venues.”

The government has asked the British Council to reduce the number of the candidates to 50 in one examination hall.
