‘Cancel Exams’ Students demand teacher-assessed grades

Hours after the Federal Education Minister announced that all exams across the country are cancelled till June; the unhappy students initiated another trend on Twitter asking for teacher predicted grades instead of giving exams after June.

Currently, #ShafqatDestroysOurCareer is a top trend in Pakistan.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, the Cambridge students requested the minister to give them School Assessed Grades (SAGs)

“Why Pakistani students are not getting the option of SAGs?” asked Asma Jahangir. The user requested the Cambridge international to not let the academic year of students go waste.

Lawyer and Human Rights activist Jibran Nasir sharing the document of collecting evidence to support school-assessed grades said that:

“Any Govt Minister giving excuses that #SchoolAssessedGrades are not preferred because last year Predicted Grades caused controversy should (i) start with learning difference between "assessed" and "predicted" and (ii) read #Cambridge's own policy on how SAGs are different/better”

While supporting student’s demands, Barrister and Human Rights Lawyer Hassaan Niazi also stressed on the need for teachers assessed grades.

“It MUST be teachers assessed grades,” he said. 

Another social media user said that “we can’t take papers in the pandemic”

The user specified that Cambridge students want Teacher assessed grades whereas local board students are demanding cancellation of exams with promotion formula.

Meanwhile, Pakistan reports 5,292 new coronavirus cases, 201 deaths, highest since the outbreak. There are 5,292 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours, taking the country's Covid-19 tally to 810,231.

The country's death toll climbed to 17,530 after 210 more people succumbed to the deadly disease.

While the total number of patients recovered from the deathly disease amounted to 704,494.

According to NCOC, the total active Covid-19 cases across the country were reported to be 88,207.
