Students to take 2 entrance exams for admissions in medical and dental colleges

According to the centralized admission policy adopted by the Medical Commission of Pakistan (PMC), candidates will be evaluated for admission to medical and dental colleges in two phases.

To get admission to medical and dental institutions, applicants would first attempt the entry exam and then the Medical College Admission (MDCAT) exam. Applicants who miss the MDCAT exam will not be accepted to or registered with a PMC at any medical college.

Candidates will be expected to achieve 60 percent marks in the MDCAT exam, according to the Admission Policy Year 2020-2021 published on the PMC website, while 33 percent marks will be expected in the entrance exam. The written exams will only be eligible for candidates who have earned 65 percent marks in HSSC Science.

The policy has directed that admissions in all public colleges across the country should be completed by 31st December and 15th February in private colleges.

The Sindh government, meanwhile, has expressed its reservations about the difficulty of medical college admissions.

The provincial health minister, Azra Fazal Pechuho, opposed the formation of the PMC in a letter written to the federal government earlier this week, stating that the Sindh Medical and Dental Colleges will not adopt its admission process and will continue with the old one.

The entrance exam in all medical and dental colleges will start from 18th October 2020, Sunday.
