Sindh makes tuberculosis test obligatory for students

The Health Department of Sindh (HDS) has made tuberculosis, hepatitis, and other tests obligatory for the students studying in government schools in the province.

The decision was made at the latest HDS meeting chaired by Dr. Azra Pechuho, Minister for Health and Population Welfare of Sindh.

Dr. Azra said during the session that the decision would help to deter the spread of highly contagious infectious diseases in the province.

The Health Minister also gave strict directives to the authorities concerned to curtail the open selling of drugs used to treat tuberculosis.

She stated that under the TB Management Plan of the HDS, the Sindh government has long been supplying free drugs to tuberculosis patients.

The Minister of Health also called on civil society organizations already involved in communicable infectious diseases to join hands with the government of Sindh and work closely to ensure transparency in the various HDS program.
