Unknown miscreants set fire to the Darel Valley girls' school in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan in the early hours of Tuesday. A Diamer Police Emergency Control Room report states that three miscreants set fire to the school and escaped in the night.

An Anti-Terrorism Act case has been filed against the unknown criminals.

FIRs state that miscreants set fire to the girls' middle school and fled, resulting in the furniture and other belongings being completely destroyed.

Gilgit-Baltistan's Chief Minister, Khalid Khurshid, ordered an investigation into the incident and immediate repairs to the school to restore educational activities, according to government spokesman Ali Taj.

As of yet, no one has claimed responsibility for torching the school.

School officials say that students are still taking classes despite the burning of the Diamer school. The girls' school in Diamer that burned down has been relocated to another building.

Gilgit-Baltistan's Samigal Darel girls' school has been shifted to another building so that even a day of education is not disrupted.

The restoration work on the burnt school building has begun. A temporary school has been established in the nearby headmaster's residence in the meantime. Gilgit-Baltistan's Chief Secretary has also ordered the school building to be restored within a week.
