Punjab: Good News for College Teachers
The plea of thousands of college teachers has been heard, the Higher Education Department of Punjab has started the process of establishing financial security of faculty members.
Work has been initiated to address the teachers' long-standing demand for pay protection. Instructions in this regard have been issued by the Higher Education Department.
The Department has sought an estimate of how much funding will be required to provide pay protection to college teachers. Due to the lack of financial security for college teachers, they have to face a deduction of ten to fifteen thousand rupees from their salary on a monthly basis.
Teachers and faculty staff members have protested several times in the recent past to meet their demand for payment protection. Lecturers recruited after 2002 do not get pay protection, while the Higher Education Department says that the estimate should be sent after consultation with the AG's office.
