Peshawar High Court has prohibited private schools from charging annual admission fees

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) upheld a ruling banning paying entrance and yearly fees to private schools in the province on Thursday.

In a written judgment in the matter, a high court bench led by Chief Justice PHC directed the private schools' governing authority to deliver the decision to academic institutions via a handout.

According to the decision, the KP government has already decided not to accept annual fees from private schools, based on comments from the authorities.

In a relatively similar judgement issued in 2019, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) stopped all private educational institutions from collecting summer vacation fees.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Private School Regulatory Authority (KP-PSRA) was ordered by a high court bench to implement its ruling.

It also ordered private educational institutions to refund tuition for the summer break that had already been collected. Previously, the KP-PSRA had prohibited all private schools from charging students a summer or winter vacation fee.

The regulating board advised all private educational institutions not to charge summer/winter vacation fees in a circular released on May 30, 2019.
